PenFed Dulles Airport Experience

The Challenge
PenFed aquired a premier advertising placement inside Washington Dulles International Airport—the Concourse C connector tunnel, one of the airport’s busiest corridors. The challenge was to transform this high-traffic passageway into a memorable brand experience for PenFed Credit Union that would resonate with millions of travelers each year.

The Insight
The journey through an airport is part of the travel experience itself. Travelers are drawn to unexpected visual moments and immersive environments that break up the routine of moving through transit spaces.

The Idea
We reimagined the tunnel as a large-scale experiential media canvas, transforming the corridor into a dynamic visual journey rather than a traditional out-of-home advertisement.

The Execution
I helped shape the creative direction and visual design, turning the tunnel’s static walls into an immersive storytelling environment through, Motion graphics and animation, Scenic photography and video, Kinetic typography

Over time, the installation evolved to include LED displays, motion content, and synchronized audio, creating a layered brand experience that unfolds as travelers move through the space.

To keep the environment visually fresh while allowing flexibility for product promotions, we also developed a modular design system built around interchangeable visual themes, enabling quick updates without requiring full redesigns.

The Impact
The installation has become a long-running experiential media environment delivering measurable results:

42.3 million total impressions
Airport tunnel traffic increased from 6.3M travelers in 2020 to 15M in 2023
Auto loan promotions exceeded goals by $26M
Savings and checking campaigns contributed to an 8% YoY increase in deposits
PenFed membership grew 123% with 94% asset growth
